Inspired by her relationship with her own body, Eve Sage uses her lens to explore what people’s tattoos reveal about their bodies and themselves. Each tattoo - its placement, meaning, and design - offers a glimpse into someone’s story. Intrigued by the mystique behind them, Eve captures these visual narratives, inviting viewers to explore the stories behind art etched into skin. Through anonymous photographs and interviews, Eve examines themes of vulnerability, empowerment, and bodily transformation.
‘Tatted’ invites you to not just see, but to feel each photo, printed on textured paper that’s similar to the roughness of skin. Each subject’s confessions - hand-transcribed onto transparent paper that covers their tattooed body parts - encourages viewers to consider their own relationship with their body, and the people around them. Eve’s book captures intimate moments and raw emotion, and reflects the profound and multifaceted nature of the human form and the stories it can tell.
