22nd
‘22nd’ is an artist book inspired by my parents and the fact that they have the same birthday. Same day, same year, only 13 minutes apart. My parents’ birthday is September 22nd, and 22 has become a special number for them as a result. Their anniversary is August 22nd, and they point out things with ‘22’ in it all the time. For this book, I interviewed my parents about their thoughts on having the same birthday, if they think it's weird, how they reacted when they found out, and how many of their birthdays they've actually spent together since they met in high school (all but 6!). Combining their story with scans of birthday cards they've sent each other over the years, from high school to this past year, I wove their love story together with red string (a reference to the red string theory that some people are simply meant to be). The result is an artists’ book capturing my parents' love, hand bound with red string by their daughter.
Pulp Magazine
Pulp Magazine was made by 14 artists and designers in the fall of 2022. I had the privilege of participating in the class that created it and contributed photography, layout, and design to the process. I even got to create the cover! Here are some of the sections I worked on:
